At our East Midlands clinic we can offer treatments that will reduce the jaw line by
weakening the masseter/chewing muscles which gives the appearance of a wider lower jaw.
It gives a softer angle to the jaw and a more pleasing facial shape.
Botox can be used to weaken these muscles and thereby giving a less square jaw with a
softer angle. Botox blocks the action of selected muscles which reduces their power and
cause a reduction in muscle size over time.
A small quantity of toxin is injected into the masseter muscles. Treatment takes only
5-10 minutes to perform.
As with any procedure involving needles, there is a small chance of mild bruising or
mild transient redness at the site of injection but in most cases these are not seen.
The Botox takes about a 1 week to begin to take effect, when you will first feel some
softness of the masseter muscles. At 6 weeks the softened muscles will reduce in size
and you will see a reduction in the size of your jaw line.
The effects of the Botox in weakening the muscle typically last about 3-6 months, but in
some patients the effects can last longer. Many people find they only require a repeat
treatment about once a year before the masseter volume begins to increase again..
