Gummy smile is a condition in individuals when they smile their top lip pulls up
excessively exposing their upper gum. This can generally be caused by hyperactive muscle
which elevates the upper lip. This can be treated by experienced doctors using Botox
injections into these hyperactive muscles. Once the muscle relaxes as the result of the
Botox this results in minimal or no exposure of the gums.
A small quantity of Botulinum toxin is injected into the hyperactive muscle. Treatment
takes only 5 minutes to perform.
Nothing other than minimal redness may be apparent after the treatment but in most cases
even this wont be seen. The treatment normally starts to take effect after 2-3 days with
full effects seen between 10-14 days, but this may vary slightly with some individuals.
The effects will normally last between 3 and 6 months.
